Israel - July 2005

Thursday, July 21st

What a trip - and it hasn't even begun yet! Little did we know when we woke up this morning what lay ahead.

Woke up around 7a and Paul packed while I rested. We left around 8ish and stopped at Eckerds for some supplies. Got to the airport in record time. The rabbi was already there.

I bought Paul and myself some breakfast and we settled in to wait to board. But around 10a, someone came over the loud speaker and announced the flight was cancelled! We all left the gate and went back to the ticketing counter to get reseated - but no, it wasn't that easy. There were 15 people in our party and trying to get that many people rebooked on the same flight proved impossible. So 9 of us (Paul, myself, the Liebermans, and the Pauls) managed (just barely) to make the 12p shuttle to NY.

When we landed at 1p, Paul and I hoofed it to the Air Canada terminal and - surprise, surprise - made it onto the 1:30p flight to Toronto! This is largely due to Paul's instance that I not check my bag. This allowed us to go straight from the plane in LGA directly to the ticket counter, without having to claim our bags. This, and the fact that we ran like hell, was the ONLY reason we made that connection!

So we arrived at Toronto at 3p, went through Customs, and surprised the other half of our group who had come from BWI without any trouble. They were pretty happy to see us and we relayed the tale over and over AND OVER again! I don't know at this point what happened to the Liebermans and the Pauls. They for sure didn't make the 1:30p flight. There was a 3:30p flight, but that gets in at 5 and our flight to Tel Aviv leaves at 5:15p. I guess we'll find out when we arrive.

We're on the plane now and should take off shortly. I hope I can sleep since I have to function tomorrow, just 10 hours away (due to the time change, we arrive at 11a). It's going to be a doozie!
