Training Diary, Volume 5: 8/16/2003

Miles this week: 133; Miles to date: 922

This week was a banner week for fundraising! You guys blow my mind. In this one week alone, I almost doubled the amount of money raised for Food and Friends: from $870 to $1,745. I am so grateful to you and I know that Food and Friends is also thankful for your extreme generosity.

As you can see from above, I'm in the home stretch, mile-wise! The weather this week was not very conducive to riding, what with Hurricane Charley threatening to flood us all out. During the week, I got some good riding in, especially a nice long loop around Arlington with Paul.

Saturday - Warrenton Wanderlust (cancelled)

Friday day, emails were flying concerning the rides over the weekend. Friday afternoon, based on the forecast, the Sunday ride was cancelled, but the Saturday ride was still set to go. However, Saturday morning at 5am, Glenn & Jim called to say they were cancelling the ride. So I made a run to Costco, but other than that, sat on my sofa most of the day.

Sunday - Starbucks to Starbucks (47 miles)

Even though the official ride for Sunday (Thurmont to Gettysburg) was cancelled, the day dawned clear and beautiful, so Bruno and I got together to do the Starbucks to Starbucks ride. It was a great ride - rolling hills and we rode through the really wealthy area of Potomac, MD. The houses were huge mansions, with perfectly manicured lawns. It always makes me wonder who actually lives there.

Because there weren't any official rides, I didn't take any pictures this week. Hope you all didn't get too wet and I'll talk to you soon!
