Weekday Commuting

I took a bit of a rest on Monday because I wasn't feeling well after last weekend's century. I went to the doctor then went to bed. Tuesday and Wednesday I took it pretty slow. Thursday I met Tria and we did Tuesday Hills (yes, even though it was Thursday). Friday I had a half day so I met Paul and Tria and we did the Arlington Loop.

Saturday - Capital to Capital (CANCELLED)

After we get all ready to go, Michelle calls me and tells me the ride is cancelled. It was raining cats and dogs so that ended up being a good thing. I went and got a hair cut, bought some T-shirts, and saw a movie (Matrix 2 - it was horrible, don't waste your money).

Sunday - Sandgate Century

Although we had overcast skies, I think everyone was looking forward to the ride after the break we had on Saturday. And even though Paul and Jay both started the day with flats, I think the ride went really well. Over 100 people came to this ride - it was absolutely incredible to see all those cyclists and bikes in one area. And that's just a tiny taste of what it's like to be on the ride. Team BUTR organized and gave us all beads to give to each other for different random acts we'd like to see repeated on the ride.

The day seemed to fly by because of nice flat terrain and NO HEADWINDS, for a change. At the first pit, we stopped and had a snack. I got my first necklace of the day for complimenting someone's calves. Team Agrodolce was out in force, making our presence known. You can't really tell from the previous picture, but there was a long line of Agrodolce-er's in a row and it was just the best sight. So when we stopped at the next pit, we took a team photo. At this point, Jay rolls in with a flat and I earn my 2nd necklace of the day helping him change his tire.

We got to the lunch pit all feeling a bit silly. After the best sandwiches made by the slowest sandwich maker ever, Nirali asked about the Pringles I bought and if anyone had ever made "duck lips" with them. No one but me had ever heard of such a thing so I demonstrated for everyone, earning my 3rd (and final) necklace of the day. Then Will comes out of the store and announces that he's just purchased cupcakes. Tria, being from England hence another planet, isn't familiar with the term and says incrediously, "F@*%CK-CAKES!?!?" Everyone bust out laughing!

After all the clowning around, we got ready to go. Before we all left, one of the store owners came running out and wanted to take our picture to post on their wall. I thought that was really nice.

We decided around mile 80 to make an impromptu pit at a random gas station. Mark, complaining that I'm always taking the pictures and am never in them, takes this shot. It came out pretty good for a cameraman! (<grin>).

At the end of the ride, Team BUTR planned a BBQ complete with kabobs, veggie dogs, and turkey dogs, plus all the chips, Gatorade, soda, and cookies your heart could desire. Tria brought delicious brownies. Glenn, however, found something else to make his day. Astrid, ride leader extraordinaire, planned a special surprise for everyone by organizing a port-a-potty to be delivered to the parking lot.

It was a great ride and I want to thank Team BUTR for offering it and putting it together. Also, a special thanks to the sweeps for the amazing job they did and the extra work they had to put in for all the unexpected riders. Only a week and a half to the ride!
