Training Diary, Volume 4: 4/28/2003

Miles this week: 89; Miles to date: 423

I have reached my fundraising goal, thanks to all of you! I can't ever thank you enough - it was tough, this year particularly because of the economy, so I really want to say how much it means to me that you were able to help.

This week was a slow week. In anticipation of my weekend away, I rode every day during the week, even though it meant rushing home from school on Monday and Wednesday and jumping on to my bike to try and get in those miles. But I managed to get in about 20 miles each day (some more, some less).

The fun thing that happened to me this week was on Wednesday as I was riding into a HUGE headwind. I was down on DC-side of the Potomac and saw this team of guys bike by so I pulled in to their path and rode with them. I started chatting with one of the guys off the back for about a mile before I had to turn around. But I really wanted to keep going - talk about incentive! All I have to say is that the back of a male cyclist is a good view to have in front of you!

I left early Saturday morning for a trip to NY to see a concert Saturday night and for my great Aunt's birthday. It was a really fun time, even though I didn't dress at all properly for the weather on Saturday and had to make an emergency pit stop for a sweater.

This week I'm gearing up for lots of riding. School is ending so I'll have more time and the training schedule is ramping up. From here on in, every weekend day is devoted to riding and I will begin riding for 15-20 miles during the week - I'm planning on those weekly mileage counts going up significantly.

Hope all is well, write back when you have a chance and let me know how you're doing. And if you live in the area and want to come to the Closing Ceremony, I'll post details when I have them.

Rachael
