Miles this week: 132; Miles to date: 790
The Week Days
Again, lots of riding during the week, either by commuting to work, or before/after work to put in the miles. Friday
there was a fundraiser at a nearby bar that I went to and helped sell temporary tattoos. One of the chefs from Food
& Friends said he would get one on his butt if we could raise another $25. We managed to raise the money and
he had to go up on stage so the entire bar could witness the application. Very fun!
Saturday - Cancelled
We get up bright and early (5:30 am) to drive out to Warrenton for the 80 mile ride. It's overcast and a little drizzly
on the way out, but no big deal, right? Wrong! By the time we pull into the staring point, it's coming down heavy
and there's lightening. So the ride was cancelled. The good part? The caramel brownies baked by Betsy didn't go
to waste!
So Paul and I did some shopping for bike gear. The skies cleared up a bit by 1p so I hopped on my bike and did
a 20 mile loop around the area but the rain didn't hold off for long because it started pouring on me. There was
no lightening so I just finished my ride and went home.
Sunday - Hidden Amish on Mother's Day
Sunday's forecast wasn't supposed to be much better than Saturday so I was skeptical about getting any riding in.
Jim and Glenn picked me up and we drove to the Hidden Amish ride. We got there early so we stopped at McDonald's
and I had a glass of OJ. Big mistake! My stomach hurt for about half the ride. Anyway...
We start off early to make sure we beat the forecasted rain. At pit one, Ron decides to follow the advice of his
jersey and drink everyone's favorite chocolate-y flavored conconction:
At pit 1, we met Nirali's mom. What a cool thing to see - a mom who drove her daughter to a ride and then
helped sweep the route just to see what it was all about and this crazy even her daughter's gotten herself in to.
It was really touching to see how excited Gita was for Nirali.
I think we got a little bored or maybe we're just crazy, but Ron, Jim, and I were chatting and somehow the movie
Chicago is brought up and since we're all huge fans, we start singing the soundtrack. And not that we were bad
singers (of course), but I felt bad for the people who may have heard us and not known what the hell we were
singing about!
We pull into the parking lot 4 hours after we start and Jim puts on the CD of Chicago and Ron drives off to
go buy it. We watch as first Glenn then Jim W. (my ride - thanks again guys) pull into the parking lot, Glenn on his brand new bike
being ridden for the first time!
We're all feeling relatively good, with a few minor injuries, scrapes, and, sore bits.
The sun sort of played hide and seek throughout the day, but according to my forearms, it was out in full force
since I got quite a sunburn. All in all, a fun Mother's Day.
